Go-Go-Goteborg: Search for the Views

After 5 days on the grind visiting companies and staying up on blogging, we had a free day to explore the city that we have become much more comfortable with over the last week we started off with breakfast at a place nicknamed Tin Tins. I had a scrambled egg breakfast, which had scrambled eggs, bacon, and a piece of toasted rye bread served with Orange Juice and Coffee. Other than the eggs being on the lukewarm side, it was a very good breakfast and for 79 SEK it was well worth the price!

From breakfast we headed out to do some sight seeing. The first stop was Skansen Kronan, which is a fortress that was built in the late 1600’s as part of the cities defenses against possible Danish attack on Gothenburg from the south. It is placed at one of the tallest hills in the city, which offers great tactical advantages and viewing point, but on the flip of the coin, it is quite the hike to get to the top. We took the paved path rather than the staircase but it was still quite the incline. Once we got to the top, it was well worth the walk up. You can see for yourself!

After we got some great content for our social medias, we walked down the biggest stairway I’ve ever seen in my life. Naturally I started playing “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin because it quite literally felt like we could make to heaven if we took that set of stairs. Also an important note, cobblestone stairs that have moss on them can get quite slippery, especially when walking down then with smooth soled running shoes.

At the bottom of the stairway it dumped us right into the historic Haga district where we did a bit of shopping in the cute little boutiques. After about an hour there we decided to take off and go explore the other side of the river in Lindholmen. This is the part of the city that Hasselblad is located, so we had a sneak preview of the area, but were in a bit of a hurry to get to the meeting so we didn’t have time to take it all in. It is a really cool area, with a location of Chalmers University and a slew of businesses it feels like a college campus but also a business center.

Our midwestern definitely showed out today, when we circled back to the Scandinavium for another Frölunda Hockey game. This time we sat in the nosebleeds, but nosebleeds in this stadium is row 25. So all things considered, we were in the lower deck of a US hockey arena. I enjoyed those seats a lot because you could see everything. When we sat in the third row for Thursdays game, it was tough to see when they were battling on the boards. Either way, Frölunda took the win 4-3. The winning goal was scored with 4 minutes left in the 3rd period, so it was a very competitive game agains Malmö!

For dinner we went to a Himalayan restaurant and decided to order a bunch of dishes and do a family style pass around. My favorite dish was the Lamb but it was all very good! I also ordered a glass of Old Durbar which is a whisky that is produced in Nepal. It was a solid drink, but it was a blended whisky so it was a bit more tame that if it was a single malt. Either way, a Nepal whisky at a Himalayan restaurant hits different.

After dinner we went out to celebrate a few different birthdays that happened during the time we’ve been in Gothenburg. I ended up linking up with one of my good friends from high school because he is studying abroad here at Chalmers University for the spring semester. So it was fun to catch up over a nice craft brew!
